When viewing comparison images, the magnification of one image compared to another can affect radiologists' ability to perceive lesion growth, according to researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Using 90 pairs of CT images depicting well-defined, hypodense liver lesions, the team sought to determine the effect of the magnification of one image on lesion comparison over time.

Lossy compression techniques are effective in abdominal CT exams at a range of compression ratios, according to a pair of recent studies. Researchers in Austria judged 3D JPEG 2000 to be suitable at ratios up to 15:1, while a South Korean team found 5:1 JPEG 2000 to be visually lossless.
