Dear AuntMinnie Member,
The radiology community has been waiting with bated breath, and now it's finally here: the list of finalists in the Minnies, AuntMinnie.com's annual event to recognize excellence in medical imaging.
Based on your nominations, our expert panel has chosen two finalists in each of our 14 categories, ranging from Most Influential Radiology Researcher to Best New Radiology Device. We also have a new category this year, Most Effective Philanthropy Program or Campaign.
In the finals phase, our panel will select winners for every category, with the lucky few to receive handsome trophies at the upcoming RSNA meeting in Chicago -- which is just around the corner!
Curious about who is still in the running? Check out the page at minnies.auntminnie.com, and stay tuned to find out who will win this year's awards!
Designing your dream PACS
If you could design a PACS network to your exact specifications, what would it include? Filmless imaging pioneer -- and Minnies 2011 finalist -- Dr. Eliot Siegel has been presented with just such an opportunity, and he shares his wish list in an article by associate editor Cynthia E. Keen in our PACS Digital Community.
Dr. Siegel's hospital, the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center, was one of the first PACS sites in operation in the world, and it's finally replacing its filmless network after 18 years. He now hopes to implement a PACS that will last the facility another 15 to 20 years -- a tall order considering the rapid pace of technological change in digital image management.
Much of Dr. Siegel's wish list focuses on archiving: specifically, a universally accessible, scalable intelligent archive that can store images regardless of the hardware being used. He also thinks there should be better interfaces available as an alternative to the conventional mouse, a design that's now decades old.
How does Dr. Siegel's wish list match up with your own needs for PACS? Check out the story by clicking here, and when you've finished, let us know what you think in our PACS Forum.
