Fujifilm, parent company of Fujifilm Medical Systems USA, announced it has received approval to begin offering its new artificial intelligence (AI) chest x-ray software in Japan.

Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency granted approval of CXR-AID, a software application developed with core AI technology by Lunit, a partner of Fujifilm since 2018. CXR-AID is designed to better detect major abnormal findings such as chest nodules, consolidation, and pneumothorax from chest x-ray images.

CXR-AID will be distributed across hospitals and medical institutions in Japan via Synapse, Fujifilm's PACS software platform.
