320-row CT cuts pediatric radiation dose versus 64-slice imaging
Pediatric radiation dose was cut by as much as half for some clinical applications by swapping 64-detector-row CT for 320-detector-row scanning, according to researchers from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The study indicates that advances in CT technology can be successfully used to cut pediatric radiation dose.

NEJM: Low-dose CT good enough to diagnose appendicitis
Low-dose CT is nearly equivalent to the standard-dose scan for diagnosing appendicitis, and it's accurate enough to serve as a first-line diagnostic modality while delivering less than one-fourth the radiation dose of full-strength CT, researchers report in a study published in the April 26 New England Journal of Medicine.

Most CTPA scans are negative even in highest-risk population
The scan radiologists love to hate can be a lifesaver. Yet most CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) scans for suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) come up negative, even in the population that might be expected to have the greatest risk: patients presenting to the emergency department with symptoms suggestive of PE.

Emergency percutaneous coronary intervention images, Tc-99m MIBI perfusion images and Tc-99m FAPI images of STEMI patients. In STEMI patients, there is a localized yet inhomogeneous uptake of Tc-99m FAPI. Notably, the extent of Tc-99m FAPI uptake significantly surpasses the area of perfusion defects. Despite similarities in coronary artery lesions (culprit vessels identified as the left anterior descending artery in image A and the right coronary artery in image B, white arrows), and comparable myocardial perfusion impairment, patients with larger Tc-99m FAPI uptake areas exhibit ventricular remodeling.
