3D imaging revitalizes pelvic ultrasound

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

It's not just for keepsake videos anymore. Three-dimensional ultrasound is growing beyond its reputation as an imaging novelty, and into its new role as an invaluable clinical tool.

The assessment comes from Dr. Beryl Benacerraf, a leading ob/gyn radiology researcher, who expounds on the benefits of 3D ultrasound in an article we're featuring this week by staff writer Tracie L. Thompson in our Ultrasound Digital Community.

Three-dimensional imaging has a wide range of benefits, she believes. It ameliorates some of the modality's finicky dependence on operator technique, reducing the need for repeat studies. It's also easier to forward images to referring physicians, and 3D reconstructions are often easier for nonimaging professionals to interpret than 2D scans.

Three-dimensional ultrasound also has specific clinical benefits as well, especially for pelvic imaging, Benacerraf believes. Find out what else 3D can do in our Ultrasound Digital Community, at ultrasound.auntminnie.com.
