Digital technology makes headway for breast cancer screening

Using computed radiography (CR) and full-field digital mammography (FFDM) systems for breast cancer screening cut the radiation dose in half while maintaining a respectable detection rate, according to German breast cancer specialists, who evaluated the first year of their national digital screening program. And researchers from Norway have published follow-up results from the Oslo II study, which compared film-screen mammography (FSM) to FFDM with soft-copy reading in nearly 24,000 women.
