Polyp ranking scheme boosts CAD efficiency

When virtual colonoscopy computer-aided detection (CAD) software is set to achieve maximum sensitivity for polyp detection, it also tends to output large numbers of false positives. But when sensitivity is set too low, true positives are missed. A new method aims to speed up CAD processing by determining from the start which polyps are likely to be deemed false positives, then eliminating them from further analysis.

Alpha particles pack a solid punch for shrinking solid tumors
Targeted alpha therapy (TAT) is an experimental treatment for micrometastases and cancers like leukemia and lymphoma that do not produce solid tumors. A group of Australian researchers noticed a remarkable regression of the subjects' solid tumors during a trial of TAT with metastatic melanoma patients. They suggested that this previously undiscovered mechanism could potentially form the basis of a new type of cancer therapy.
