Ultrasound-guided cryoablation destroys diseased tissue by applying cycles of freezing and thawing temperatures. It has gained ground in the treatment of renal tumors, prostate cancer, and bone metastases. Breast fibroadenoma is another area where cryotherapy is making some inroads, although more research is needed for it to become the go-to treatment modality in this common disease state.
