New report slams breast imaging as flawed compared to biopsy

All alternative breast imaging modalities are insufficient for detecting cancer and are not a viable replacement for biopsy, according to a report released today by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

MR mammography: Screening tool or diagnostic adjunct?
Over the years, MR scanners have evolved to become faster and stronger. MRI has a valuable role in the diagnosis of breast cancer; however, it is not for patients of low or normal risk and should be reserved for patients at high risk. It is also important for problem-solving in patients with complex mammograms, for preoperative planning, and for monitoring therapy in patients with breast cancer.
