MRI has been unfairly labeled as insensitive for diagnosing ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). In fact, DCIS cases found on MR are reflective of an advanced biological disease profile and not necessarily overdiagnosis, according to researchers in Germany. They performed a study of more than 5,000 women, comparing MRI to mammography for DCIS diagnosis.

American Journal of Roentgenology
. The San Francisco-based investigators also found that both readers identified more early-stage, favorable-prognosis cancers in the screening population.
