Trends in mammography utilization: Cause for alarm in Medicare population?

Recent clinical research has suggested an apparent decline in the mammography screening rate in women over the age of 40. If this is in fact the case, is this trend cause for concern in the Medicare population? Researchers from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital found that mammography use does seem to be lower than recommended by the American Cancer Society for this population.

FFDM reimbursement: Money still matters

Digital mammography may be clinically accepted, but it's still unclear for many facilities whether it's a good idea. It pays to be realistic about exactly how much it will cost to set up digital mammography, about a facility's consumer and payor mix, and about how many exams the practice can reasonably perform per day, according to Dr. Michael Linver at the National Consortium of Breast Centers' annual conference.
