Peptide radiotracer may outperform contrast venography in distinguishing DVT

An estimated half-million cases a year of pulmonary embolism (PE) in the U.S. can be traced to deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Contrast venography and sonography can't readily distinguish stable DVT from the acute form considered more likely to lead to PE. But peptide-based thromboscintigraphy may yield better diagnoses and save more lives, says a report in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
