NEW YORK CITY - The increasing prevalence of fetal entertainment ultrasound studies has attracted concern over the possible misuse of scans performed for nonmedical purposes. But, at least in the experience of a research team from Salt Lake City, patients receiving these scans seem to be aware of their limitations and view them as an adjunct to their medical ultrasound exam.

Patients may misperceive sensitivity of second-trimester ultrasound

NEW YORK CITY - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that 68% of women who gave birth in 2002 received an ultrasound exam at some point in their pregnancy. But many women may also not grasp the limitations of second-trimester ultrasound exams, according to research from Stanford University in Stanford, CA, and Northwestern University in Chicago.

DTHI boosts US performance in hepatic imaging

NEW YORK CITY - A new dual-frequency nonlinear imaging mode called differential tissue harmonic imaging (DTHI) offers improvements over tissue harmonic imaging (THI) and fundamental ultrasound for hepatic applications, according to researchers from the U.S. and Taiwan. Dr. Flemming Forsberg presented the team's research Friday at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) meeting.
