External anal sphincter defect findings nearly equivalent on MR, US

Endoanal MRI and endoanal ultrasound demonstrate nearly equal capabilities for depicting external anal sphincter (EAS) defects in patients with fecal incontinence. A four-year, multicenter study from the Netherlands has found that both modalities are sensitive tools for preoperative assessment and both techniques can be used to depict surgically repairable anterior EAS defects.

Ultrasound continues to make inroads in breast imaging

A pair of recent studies focused on advanced techniques in sonography for breast imaging. First, researchers from the University of Chicago share their preliminary experience with an automated whole-breast ultrasound device (WhoBUS). In the second study, researchers from Korea and the U.S. compare tissue harmonic imaging (THI) to conventional sonography in characterizing solid breast masses.
