Fujifilm Sonosite has introduced a 46-MHz ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) transducer for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), highlighting it as a new approach to superficial imaging.

The UHF46-20 transducer provides a minimum scan depth of 4 mm and is available exclusively on the Fujifilm Sonosite LX POCUS system. It enables clinicians to visualize the first 1 to 2 centimeters beneath the skin and identify structures smaller than 1 mm, such as superficial nerves and vessels, with high-quality resolution, according to the Bothell, WA-based Fujifilm company.

In the neonatal intensive care unit, the new technology may improve first attempt success rates to visualize tiny, submillimeter anatomy, the company said. For rheumatology, the technology may aid in the visualization of subclinical synovitis, erosions, crystal deposits, and inflammation, all of which are beneficial in the early diagnosis and intervention of chronic conditions, Fujifilm Sonosite said.
