Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) has proved to be as effective as handheld ultrasound (HHUS) for identifying lesions, according to a pilot study out of the Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic in Rochester, NY. The technique has potential as a screening adjunct to mammography, according to the lead author.

Lung cancer screening data from the I-ELCAP trial suggest that patients with secondary tumors might benefit from more aggressive management, and that metastases, at least in the predominant non-small cell lung cancers, may be less common than previously thought. The data also suggest that revisions in the current staging criteria may help save lives.
