MR angiography offers greater detail in vascular imaging
By
Shalmali Pal
Correlation was the name of the game in two MR angiography (MRA) studies. A group from New York City looked at whether contrast flow measurements coincided with the severity of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). Meanwhile, Italian radiologists studied whether MR plaque enhancement was in sync with the degree of stenosis in the carotid artery.

Doubling down: Raising the stakes of MRI patient safety
Over the past few years MRI has seen a dramatic growth in utilization, as well as increasing magnet strength. MRI architectural consultant Tobias Gilk explains how these two factors combined multiply the risks to patient safety, and why a rededicated effort is needed to develop and implement appropriate safety measures to mitigate the risks.

MDCT, MRI, TTE, TEE compared for aortic valve measurement
By
Eric Barnes
VIENNA - MDCT and MRI are emerging as powerful noninvasive cardiac imaging alternatives, but can they accurately estimate valvular morphology and function? The preliminary answer is yes for both modalities, according to a Belgian study that compared MDCT and MRI to transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography (TTE and TEE) for estimating aortic valve area in normal and stenotic valves.

MRI makes connection between diabetes, CNS
By
Shalmali Pal
The brain has not traditionally been considered a target for diabetic complications, but new research has shown that the disease does affect the central nervous system (CNS). The underlying causes, however, are poorly understood. This led researchers from New York to use MRI to study the effects of diabetes on the CNS and cerebrovascular volume (CBV).
