A technique called generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisition, or GRAPPA, offers images with "excellent" diagnostic quality and scan time reduction when paired with 3-tesla MR, according to researchers from two California-based institutions. They experimented with this protocol in symptomatic, cadaveric ankle specimens and healthy volunteers.

Study: CAD helpful for breast MRI

Computer-aided detection (CAD) for breast MRI may improve standardization and the analysis of benign and malignant lesions. Researchers from Seattle conducted a retrospective examination of 154 breast lesions deemed suspicious by radiologists that were only visible on MRI and that had been biopsied under MRI guidance.

MRgFUS an option for many women seeking less invasive fibroid treatment

Nearly a quarter of U.S. women suffer from clinically symptomatic uterine fibroids. While treatment options have moved beyond hysterectomy, researchers from New York City asked how many of these women are eligible for a less invasive treatment, such as MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). A fair number, according to the group, but refining MRgFUS will open it up to a broader patient population.
