CHICAGO - FDG-PET/CT showed higher sensitivity than contrast-enhanced CT in the nodal staging of pulmonary lesions, according to information from an Italian research team. However, contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) revealed a higher specificity than FDG-PET/CT in characterizing pulmonary lesions, the group reported.

Dual-time-point imaging is promising technique that can increase PET's sensitivity and specificity by maximizing the uptake of F-18 FDG in malignant tissue, while allowing for the decrease of the radiopharmaceutical in inflammatory tissue. A group of researchers from Philadelphia recently put this technique to the task of improving breast cancer diagnosis with PET.
