Dual-phase PET/CT useful in lung nodule assessment
By
Eric Barnes
The use of dual-phase PET/CT can help distinguish benign from malignant lung nodules when F-18 FDG uptake is low, according to a new study from Korea. A group from the National University of Pusan sought to assess the utility of dual-phase PET/CT to differentiate benign from malignant lung disease with low F-18 FDG uptake.

Rubidium PET/CT shows potential for coronary artery disease diagnosis
By
Jonathan S. Batchelor
While molecular imaging for coronary artery disease (CAD) with SPECT or PET is accurate, diagnosis of multivessel CAD has proved difficult with these modalities. A team of researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston may have found a way to address the insufficiencies of multivessel CAD diagnosis by utilizing rubidium (Rb-82) PET/CT to determine a value for vasodilator left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) reserve.

SPECT/CT offers on-target diagnosis in noncancerous bone disease
By
Shalmali Pal
There's no shortage of research on SPECT/CT in oncologic imaging and the fact that bone scintingraphy has its limitations in this setting. But what about patients who are referred for nononcologic imaging? Is bone scintigraphy any more useful? No, according to nuclear medicine specialists from Israel, who advocated using SPECT plus multislice low-dose CT (MslCT) instead.
