Vertebral body pattern may indicate risk for cement-related fracture

American Journal of Roentgenology
, Dr. Noboru Tanigawa and colleagues from the department of radiology at Kansai Medical University in Osaka, Japan, hypothesized that different cement patterns in treated vertebrae have an impact on the frequency of new compression fractures. They tested this theory in 76 patients with 266 osteoporosis-related fractures who underwent vertebroplasty.

US guidance needles away the pain of rotator cuff calcific tendinitis

CHICAGO - A 15-minute, inexpensive procedure using ultrasound guidance and local anesthesia can relieve severe, disabling shoulder pain caused by calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff, according to physicians from Italy. In a presentation at the RSNA 2007 meeting, they described the details of procedure and reported the results from nearly 2,800 patients who received the treatment.

MRI OK for patients with newer implanted cardiac devices

CHIGAGO - Patients with implanted pacemakers or defibrillators no longer need to be routinely denied much-needed MR scans, according to a presentation Sunday at the 2007 RSNA meeting. Researchers from Italy found that 1.5-tesla MR was safe in their patients with the new generation of cardiac devices.
