Surgi-Vision wins clearance for MRI coil

MRI coil developer Surgi-Vision of Columbia, MD, has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for Urethral Coil, a new coil designed to produce images of the female urethral wall from inside the body. The company says the product will improve treatment and diagnosis of diseases of the female urethra, such as urinary incontinence.

Urethral Coil is similar in size to conventional urology catheters, and is designed to work with any MRI scanner, according to Surgi-Vision president and CEO Nancy Taylor. The company previously received clearance for Esophageal MR Microcoil, an MRI coil designed to be inserted into the esophagus to produce better MR images.
