Medical device firm Advanced Research Technologies (ART) plans to exhibit its work-in-progress optical imaging device, SoftScan, in its RSNA booth.
SoftScan helps radiologists determine whether lesions are malignant or benign, and can be used as an adjunct to mammography, according to the Saint-Laurent, Quebec-based company. The device uses a laser to pulse near-infrared light through breast tissue; a detector on the other side captures the energy and translates data into images. SoftScan is noninvasive, and does not produce radiation or require breast compression. U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance is pending.
