Hx Technologies scores NCI grant

Healthcare information technology provider Hx Technologies has received a $1.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to expand its Philadelphia Health Information Exchange.

Launched two years ago, the Philadelphia Health Information Exchange is built on Hx's iHistory platform, and allows hospitals and clinics in the region to privately and securely exchange digital medical records across enterprise borders for shared patients, according to Hx of Philadelphia. The network currently supports the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Presbyterian Medical Center, and Pennsylvania Hospital.

The new funds will support expansion of the network to additional hospitals and health systems in the region, as well as the introduction of new features such as interoperability standards to ensure network compatibility with other exchanges as they emerge around the country, Hx said.
