CIVCO Medical Solutions

Ultrasound and radiotherapy products provider CIVCO Medical Solutions will show a broad range of products for interventional radiology, surgery, and emergency medicine in Chicago.

Leading up to RSNA 2006, the Kalona, IA-based company has released a number of ultrasound-related products, among them a new one-piece disposable needle guide for use with BE9-C transducers on the Logiq S6, Logiq 3, Logiq 5, and Logiq 7 ultrasound systems from GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.

The needle guide is designed to snap securely to the transducer locating features, guiding instruments according to on-screen guidelines. The design of the needle guide features zero needle resistance for smoother movement and navigation, as well as increased patient safety during puncture procedures, according to the company. The needle guide also accepts 16- to 18-gauge instruments.

CIVCO also will show its new needle guidance systems for use with transducers from Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA. The Ergo C5-2, C6-3, V6-2, V8-4, and X3-1 multiangle systems are designed to work in conjunction with biopsy software on Philips' HD11, iU22, and EnVisor ultrasound platforms for ultrasound-guided procedures, such as tissue biopsy, fluid aspirations, and catheter placement.

CIVCO also offers a reusable endocavity needle guide for Philips' C9-4ec transducer on the HD3 ultrasound system; EC4-9/10ED and EC4-9/13CD transducers on the SonoAce 9900 and AccuVIX XQ ultrasound systems from Korean ultrasound vendor Medison; and C8 transducers from SonoSite of Bothell, WA. The disposable needle guides are all designed to direct minimally invasive instruments by following on-screen guidelines for a fixed path of needle guidance. The C8 needle guidance system also aids clinicians with tissue biopsy, fluid aspirations, and catheter placement. The guide accepts 16- to 18-gauge instruments.

Intended for single-use applications, needle guides are designed to reduce the risks of cross-contamination by allowing clinicians to discard used needle guides after procedures.

All of the products have clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and have received the CE Mark for availability in Europe. Needle-guide-only kits also are available.
