GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., has donated 10 of its Vscan ultrasound pocket-sized visualization units to the Vatican's Good Samaritan Foundation for use in Africa.
Vscan systems will be distributed to 10 hospitals in the northeast region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The pocket-sized ultrasound technology will broaden access to healthcare to the local people of Africa, enabling clinicians to take healthcare to the patient rather than the patient coming to the healthcare provider, according to GE.
In addition to donating the Vscan devices, GE Healthcare will provide clinical training to local African clinicians, the company said.
