Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, has signed an exclusive contract with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a combat ultrasound hemorrhage treatment device.
The prototype Deep Bleeder Acoustic Coagulation (DBAC) cuff will aim to limit blood loss and shock resulting from combat limb injuries, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor. Partners at the University of Washington's Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound, Texas A&M University's Institute for Preclinical Studies, and Siemens Corporate Research will work together with Siemens Healthcare to achieve DARPA's goal of producing a prototype in 18 months, Siemens said.
