Siemens selects Linux for MRI

Siemens Medical Solutions of Malvern, PA, has selected the Suse Linux Enterprise Real-Time operating system (OS) and NightStar application development tools to improve processing performance of its Magnetom MRI products.

The Suse Linux Enterprise Real Time OS is built on top of the SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 platform from Novell of Waltham, MA. The system has been extended with real-time computing capabilities from Concurrent of Duluth, GA.

The OS features support for 32- and 64-bit processor architectures (Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron), guaranteed interrupt response time of less than 30 msec, high-resolution timer support for enhanced scheduling, user-level control of hyperthreading, and processor shielding, all within a single application programming interface (API), according to Novell.
