Edan launches point-of-care US scanner

Edan Medical launched a new ultrasound scanner for point-of-care applications at this week's Anesthesiology 2014 meeting in New Orleans.

Called Acclarix AX8, the compact ultrasound system has the image quality and color Doppler sensitivity of a larger console system in a laptop configuration, according to the company. The launch represents an expansion of Edan's product portfolio, which previous consisted of entry-level scanners for emerging markets.

Standard features on Acclarix AX8 include tissue-adaptive imaging, which automatically optimizes images to help identify tissue boundaries, and design features such as a tilt-and-swivel monitor, extended battery life, a sealed control panel, needle visualization technology, and application-specific exam and imaging presets.

The scanner also includes a new generation of six transducers that cover point-of-care applications including anesthesia, musculoskeletal, rheumatology, interventional radiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and surgery.
