GE, Intel form $250 million HIT alliance

GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and Intel have inked a $250 million agreement to market and develop home-based healthcare information technologies for seniors and patients with chronic conditions, the company said.

GE Healthcare will sell Intel's Health Guide, a care management tool designed for healthcare professionals who manage patients with chronic conditions. It includes an in-home patient device with online interface. GE has already developed its QuietCare system, a remote activity and behavioral monitoring device for seniors.

In addition, GE and Intel will work together to bring to market next-generation home health technologies, and the companies will expand their current development programs in home health and independent living to include new areas such as fall prevention, medication compliance, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and personal wellness monitoring.
