ARRT requires degree to sit for exam

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) has approved a proposal to set the associate degree as the minimum educational requirement for its certification exams in radiography, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy systems.

The same requirement applies to candidates for MRI and sonography certification who apply under the primary pathway, the St. Paul, MN-based association said.

The new regulation states that candidates applying for certification beginning January 1, 2015, must have earned an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree from an institution accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT. The degree does not need to be in the radiologic sciences.
