(Booth 3568) Magmedix of Fitchburg, MA, brings to Chicago its Interventional Magnetic Resonance Optical Communications (IMROC) system, designed to enable communications in the MRI suite without radiofrequency (RF) noise or interference.

2008 10 30 09 36 40 747 Magmedix Mri 2008IMROC enables fully interactive, multichannel communication during interventional MRI scans for as many as five staff members, with an additional channel for the patient and a technologist in the control room.

The technology also offers dual-channel optical microphones with active noise-canceling technology and optical headphones with no electromagnetic or RF interference.

Magmedix plans to market the IMROC system for interventional and intraoperative MRI and functional MRI applications, such as MRI-guided cryo and thermal ablation, MRI-guided neurosurgery, and MRI-guided catheterization.

IMROC has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and currently is available in the U.S. The company is advancing toward the European CE Mark, with hopes of achieving certification by mid-2009.
