Zonare Medical Systems

Zonare Medical Systems of Mountain View, CA, is launching its z.one ultrasound system at the company's first RSNA show. The z.one is a full-featured cart-based scanner that converts to a portable system.

Zonare

Zonare captures information in zones rather than in individual lines as is done in other systems, with far more utilization of software versus hardware, according to the company. This enables the system to minimize its convertible scan engine without compromising image quality. Upgrades can be quickly and inexpensively achieved due to the reliance on software versus hardware.

The scanner's target market niche will be radiologists in a wide variety of settings who need a flexible scanner at a good price-to-value ratio, according to the company. Relevant clinical applications are general imaging, vascular, ob/gyn, and other ultrasound applications.

The z.one has FDA 510(k) clearance, and will be available in the U.S. and worldwide in the first quarter of 2005. List prices will range from $78,000 to $93,000.
