Bayer has announced plans to close its campus in Robinson Township, PA, and eliminate 569 jobs and 96 contractors over the next two years.

According to a January 15 report on TribLive.com, the location once served as the U.S. headquarters for the parent company of Bayer HealthCare.

Bayer's U.S. operations will be consolidated to support its healthcare business, based in Whippany, NJ, and its agriculture business, headquartered in St. Louis.

This week's announcement follows Bayer's plan, unveiled in November 2018, to reduce its global workforce by some 12,000 jobs by 2021 to improve productivity and profitability. Bayer employed 99,800 people worldwide in 2017, according to the article.

The company has three Bayer HealthCare operations in Indianola, O'Hara, and Saxonburg, PA. Those offices are not involved in the layoffs.
