U-Systems showcases upgrades

Ultrasound developer U-Systems presented an upgrade to its somoViewer automated breast ultrasound system (ABUS) workstation at last week's 2010 RSNA meeting in Chicago.

Release One.5 supports import and export of all DICOM images, according to the Sunnyvale, CA-based vendor. The update also includes Compare View, which allows for side-by-side comparison of same-patient serial exams, and Active-Motion Transition for maintaining view acuity during layout transitions, U-Systems said.

The release also incorporates a bidirectional link to SecurView diagnostic workstations from Hologic of Bedford, MA, enabling corresponding mammography and ABUS cases to be opened simultaneously, the company said.

In other recent U-Systems news, the firm said that patient enrollment in its European Asymptomatic Screening Study (EASY) has begun at Capio St. Göran's Hospital in Stockholm. The study aims to determine whether the combination of full-field digital mammography (FFDM) and U-Systems' somo.v ABUS system can improve breast cancer detection over mammography alone in women with dense breast tissue.

The study aims to recruit 8,000 asymptomatic women with dense breast tissue.
