1st patients treated with hipEOS 3.0 and Intellijoint Hip

Orthopedic imaging technology developer EOS Imaging announced that surgeons have successfully performed total hip arthroplasty for the first time on patients using its hipEOS 3.0 surgical planning software delivered intraoperatively by the Intellijoint Hip smart navigation system from Intellijoint Surgical.

The 3D surgical planning software allows users to examine 2D and 3D patient-specific models to select and position hip implants that optimize a patient's range of motion. When used in conjunction with the Intellijoint Hip surgical navigation system, clinicians are able to make real-time intraoperative measurements while performing the procedure -- reducing the risk of complications such as dislocation and leg length discrepancies, according to the company.

The surgical team, led by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Peter Sculco, completed the first patient cases with the technologies at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
