NY marks $38M for breast cancer screening initiative

Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York announced that $37.7 million in funding has been designated for improving breast cancer screening as part of the "Get Screened, No Excuses" initiative.

The funds will help support community educators, increase the availability of patient navigators, and send six new mobile mammography vans to offer screening in underserved neighborhoods across New York, according to a statement by the state.

In 2016, the initiative launched 10 community-based peer education programs emphasizing the importance of screening, along with 33 patient navigation programs to help women understand the healthcare system and complete screening.
