The Australian government is about to invest another $150 million ($108 million U.S.) to expand MRI services in the country.

The infusion will bring to $375 million ($270 million) the total investment by the Liberal National government to add 50 new MRI licenses.

In September 2018, the government announced the first 10 locations to receive new Medicare support for MRI. At that time, the government also opened a competitive public process for 20 more Medicare-eligible applications. More than 490 applications were received.

The recipients of the additional licenses are expected to be announced soon.
