ABMRS names new board members, recaps 2018

The American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) elected a new slate of board members at its annual board meeting.

Heidi Edmonson, PhD, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors. Edmonson is certified by the ABMRS as an MR safety officer (MRSO) and MR safety expert (MRSE).

Robert Watson, PhD, has become the board's vice chair. Certified by the ABMRS as an MR medical director (MRMD), Watson previously served as the board's secretary/treasurer. William Faulkner, a certified MRSO, was selected to become secretary/treasurer.

Tobias Gilk, certified as both an MRSO and MRSE, will continue on as an officer of the board in his role as immediate past chair.

In other news, the ABMRS announced that its MR Safety Certified (MRSC) exams had an average passing rate of 80% from 2017 through November 2018. After more than three years of administering safety exams, the ABMRS has now conferred MRSC board certification upon approximately 1,500 MRI safety professionals worldwide, according to the organization.

In 2018, the ABMRS also administered its first international ABMRS exams in Sydney. Next year, the ABMRS plans to also conduct exams in Melbourne, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and London.
