Siemens Healthineers has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Magnetom Sola 1.5-tesla MRI scanner.

Sola has a 70-cm bore and features BioMatrix technology, first introduced in 2017 with Siemens' 3-tesla Magnetom Vida system. BioMatrix tuners automatically adapt to patient anatomy with CoilShim and Slice Adjust technology, according to the vendor. It can cover larger body regions in one step with a full 50 x 50 x 50-cm field-of-view, Siemens said.

Magnetom Sola also comes with the firm's multislice turbo-spin echo and Compressed Sensing image acquisition technologies, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) that automates routine tasks. The scanner offers low helium inventory, efficient energy management, and a completely new user environment, Siemens said. A cardiovascular edition of Sola is also available.
