ViewRay lands Japanese regulatory approval for MRI linac

Image-guided radiation therapy developer ViewRay has secured approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare to market MRIdian Linac, the company's linear accelerator-based MRI-guided radiation therapy system.

MRIdian Linac is the first MR linac to receive approval in Japan, according to ViewRay. This action follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) 510(k) clearance of the machine in 2017. The Japanese ministry also approved ViewRay's MRIdian cobalt system in August 2016, which the company has since installed at two hospitals in Japan.

General trading company Itochu currently represents ViewRay in Japan.
