The ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China continues to ratchet up. On August 3, China announced plans to impose $60 billion in new tariffs on more than 5,000 types of U.S. products, including several types of imaging equipment.

HS code 90222100: Alpha, medical alpha, beta, gamma-ray equipment has been included on a list of items that would receive a 10% tariff, according to documents on the China Ministry of Commerce website.

The following imaging products are on the proposed 5% tariff list:

  • 90181210: B-type ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus
  • 90181291: Color ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus
  • 90181299: Other ultrasonic scanning devices
  • 90181389: Other MRI apparatus
  • 90221200: CT apparatus
  • 90223000 X-ray tube

China's Ministry of Commerce said the implementation date of these tariff measures would be subject to the actions of the U.S. and that China reserves the right to continue to introduce other countermeasures.

The full list of proposed tariffs can be found on the ministry's website.
