A radiologist has been arrested in connection with an incident last week at a hospital in India in which a man carrying a metal oxygen cylinder was pulled into an MRI room and killed.
Dr. Siddhant Shah was arrested on February 1, becoming the fourth person arrested in connection with the case, according to an article in the Tribune of India. The other three individuals were hospital personnel who were at BYL Nair Hospital in Mumbai when the incident occurred.
The victim in the case, Rajesh Maruti Maru, was accompanying his mother-in-law for a scan and carried the oxygen tank into the room, past a metal detector that wasn't functioning, according to press reports. The tank was pulled from Maru's grasp by the scanner's magnetic field and was damaged, leaking oxygen that subsequently caused the pneumothorax that killed Maru.
Shah was arrested after Maru's family members told investigators that the radiologist was present at the time of the scan. Shah has been charged with dereliction of duty and has been released on bail, according to the Tribune.
