FDA clears 2 Siemens MRI brain apps

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared two Siemens Healthcare applications for brain MRI.

Simultaneous Multi-Slice and GoBrain are designed to reduce the time required for MRI examinations. The Simultaneous Multi-Slice software acquires brain MR images simultaneously as opposed to sequentially, which reduces 2D acquisition times by as much as a factor of eight, Siemens said.

GoBrain enables clinically validated brain exams in five minutes and allows acquisition of image orientations and contrasts with a single button-push, in part due to Siemens' high-channel-density coils and the company's MRI scanning software, DotGo.

The Simultaneous Multi-Slice application is available on Siemens' Magnetom Aera 1.5-tesla, Magnetom Skyra 3-tesla, and Magnetom Prisma and PrismaFit 3-tesla MRI systems. The GoBrain application is available on the Magnetom Aera and Magnetom Skyra systems.
