Eden Radioisotopes and Sandia National Laboratories together have received the 2019 Excellence in Technology Transfer award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for their production of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99).

The award recognizes a partnership that has enabled Eden Radioisotopes to build a reactor in New Mexico using Sandia National Laboratories technology to develop medical isotopes. The reactor particularly focuses on the production of Mo-99, an isotope that's critical in the production of technetium-99m (Tc-99m), according to Eden.

The Eden-Sandia partnership, and the work it enables with these medically critical isotopes, is important because supplies of Mo-99 are unpredictable -- a shortage of Mo-99 directly impacts the supply of Tc-99m to patients.
