PerkinElmer teams with Max Planck Innovation

PerkinElmer of Waltham, MA, has signed an exclusive agreement to license solid-state silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) technology from Max Planck Innovation of Munich.

The licensing agreement is designed to complement PerkinElemer's portfolio of photon detection products and technologies, including PET diagnostic scanning and various analytical fluorescence applications.

SiPM is designed for very high photon detection efficiencies, shorter response time, and very low power consumption, making it applicable to various low light level applications, the company said.

PerkinElmer's photon detection products include Si and indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) avalanche photodiodes and PIN photodiodes for high-performance applications and channel photomultipliers for molecular detection in analytical applications and clinical diagnostics.
