The American College of Radiology (ACR) has become the latest organization to move to an online format for its annual meeting.

ACR 2020 will take place virtually as scheduled May 16-19. However, the ACR has canceled its RADPAC gala and Capitol Hill Day events in accordance with social distancing and other health and safety recommendations put forth by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"The health and safety of ACR members and the patients they serve, as well as that of ACR employees and local hospitality staff, are the primary reason for this transition," said Dr. Geraldine McGinty, chair of the ACR's board of chancellors, in a statement. "We support and participate in ongoing national efforts to reduce coronavirus (COVID-19) risk. As such, the ACR will empower ACR 2020 participants to take part online."

ACR 2020 will have a number of events online in which virtual attendees can still participate. They include the following:

  • ACR caucus meetings
  • ACR elections
  • Consideration of ACR practice parameters and technical standards
  • Consideration of ACR policy resolutions
  • Livestreaming of the presidential address and chair's report
  • Awarding of ACR Gold Medals and honorary fellowships
