Of all the physician specialties, radiologists have the most interest in telemedicine job positions, according to a new analysis of U.S. physician employment trends in telemedicine published by professional medical network Doximity.

Psychiatry and internal medicine were second and third, respectively, on the list of specialties with the most interest in telemedicine. In other findings, Doximity reported that radiology was third on the list of top 10 specialties interested in locum tenens positions, behind only anesthesiology and emergency medicine.

Study lead author Christopher Whaley, PhD, of the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and colleagues performed the study using data from Doximity on engagement with job postings on the Doximity network. Engagement was defined as a physician taking action in response to a job posting by clicking on a posting to "see more," submitting a resume, or scheduling an input call, according to Doximity.

Noting the overall increase in physician interest in locum tenens work and telemedicine positions, the study findings could signal a growing trend of physicians gravitating toward more flexible positions, Doximity said.
