Boston Scientific has announced the U.S. launch of its SpaceOAR Vue hydrogel perirectal spacer for prostate imaging.

The SpaceOAR Vue hydrogel is a radiopaque version of the company's SpaceOAR hydrogel. Both versions create a temporary space between the prostate and rectum to help minimize radiation therapy side effects for patients with prostate cancer.

Unlike its predecessor, the new Vue version of the spacer adds CT visibility, providing more options for treatment planning and patients with contraindications for MRI scans. Departments can also create treatment plans using only CT, reducing the need for postprocedure MRI scans, according to Boston Scientific.
