Artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Cortechs.ai has garnered a $1.35 million grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health's (NIH) National Institutes of Aging to support development of automated software aimed at facilitating early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Specifically, the 2.5-year grant was awarded to Cortechs.ai to quantify microstructural changes in Alzheimer's disease based on restriction spectrum imaging, an advanced diffusion MRI technique, according to the vendor. In a clinical setting, an automated AI application could then enable physicians to determine a patient's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, as well as to monitor disease progression and treatment response, Cortechs.ai said.
